ISLAMABAD: Pakistanโs Foreign Office has firmly rejected a report by a United States-based media outlet regarding the presence of Iranian aircraft at the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi. Officials described the report as โmisleading and sensationalisedโ while stressing that the claims lacked factual basis.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office stated that speculative narratives surrounding the aircraft appeared designed to undermine ongoing regional peace and stability efforts. Furthermore, authorities clarified that the aircraft arrivals were linked to diplomatic coordination rather than any military activity.
Diplomatic Coordination Behind Aircraft Presence
According to the Foreign Office, several aircraft from Iran and the United States arrived in Pakistan during the ceasefire period and the early phase of the Islamabad Talks. These flights reportedly facilitated the movement of diplomatic officials, security teams, and administrative personnel connected to the dialogue process.
The statement explained that some aircraft and support staff remained temporarily in Pakistan after the initial talks concluded. Officials added that these arrangements were maintained in anticipation of future rounds of diplomatic engagement.
Although formal negotiations have not resumed, Pakistan confirmed that senior-level diplomatic contacts continue. In this context, authorities facilitated visits by Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad through existing logistical arrangements.
Foreign Office Rejects Military Speculation
The Foreign Office emphasized that the Iranian aircraft currently stationed in Pakistan arrived during the ceasefire period and held no connection to military contingency planning or preservation activities. Consequently, officials dismissed claims suggesting otherwise as inaccurate and detached from reality.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its role as an impartial and responsible facilitator supporting dialogue and de-escalation efforts. Moreover, the statement highlighted the countryโs commitment to transparency and communication with all relevant stakeholders.
The Foreign Office concluded by reiterating Pakistanโs support for initiatives promoting regional peace, stability, and diplomatic engagement.
