Iran stated on Wednesday that indirect negotiations with the United States are still going on via Pakistan despite their failure to make any progress in the weekend negotiations. According to an official at Iranโs foreign ministry, Esmaiel Baqaei, negotiations are still being held despite the lack of success on Sunday. In addition, several messages have been exchanged between the two nations after the Iranian team went back to Tehran.
Ongoing Backchannel Efforts Keep Dialogue Alive
According to Baqaei, the anticipated meeting will come after previous talks that had taken place in Islamabad. It is important to mention that Pakistan still maintains its significance in facilitating communications between Tehran and Washington. Nevertheless, the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, said that Iran was ready for negotiations. The country is interested in preserving peace rather than causing wars in the region. However, he mentioned that Iran would never surrender because any efforts to do so would end in failure.
US Signals Optimism Despite Longstanding Distrust
Conversely, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, mentioned that the war with Iran could be nearing its end. In an interview, he revealed that Tehran is looking for a solution and expressed his hope that things are progressing well. Additionally, he warned Iran against gaining any nuclear capability since such an occurrence would shake world peace.
On another note, the vice president of the USA, JD Vance, mentioned that a ceasefire is still on and negotiations are ongoing. He recognized that there was much mistrust between the two nations but was hopeful for a positive outcome. Moreover, he mentioned that these were the most intense talks in decades.
