RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Ghana have agreed to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation by expanding collaboration in military training, counter-terrorism, and defence production. The commitment came during a high-level meeting at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff of the Republic of Ghana, met Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The meeting focused on enhancing military ties between the two friendly countries.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the visiting Ghanaian military chief received a Guard of Honour. A smartly turned-out tri-services contingent welcomed him upon his arrival at GHQ.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed matters of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on regional security challenges and evolving strategic developments. Furthermore, they explored opportunities to deepen bilateral defence cooperation.
Pakistan and Ghana agreed to expand collaboration in professional military training. They also pledged to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts. In addition, both countries decided to promote partnerships in defence production.
Lieutenant General William Agyapong praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He also acknowledged their significant role in promoting regional peace and stability. Moreover, he appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening defence partnerships.
Separately, Abdul Razak Osman, National Security Coordinator of the Republic of Ghana, visited Naval Headquarters in Islamabad. He met Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf to discuss issues of mutual interest and defence cooperation.
Later, Abdul Razak Osman also called on Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters. Lieutenant General William Agyapong attended both meetings. The engagements reflected the growing commitment of Pakistan and Ghana to broaden military cooperation and reinforce strategic relations across multiple defence sectors.
