ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Wednesday announced the formation of three special technical groups ahead of the second round of talks between the United States and Iran. The groups will focus on key issues aimed at supporting the ongoing diplomatic process.
Foreign Office spokesman Tahir Andrabi said the first group would address matters related to Iran’s nuclear programme. Meanwhile, the second group would examine sanctions and frozen Iranian assets. The third group would focus on developments in Lebanon.
According to Andrabi, technical teams from Pakistan and Qatar will remain in close contact with both Washington and Tehran throughout the negotiations. He added that Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
The spokesman said several countries had appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in helping facilitate a ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Furthermore, he stated that Pakistan welcomed international recognition of its diplomatic engagement.
Andrabi also praised the Pakistani media for supporting efforts aimed at encouraging dialogue between the two countries. He noted that responsible media coverage had contributed positively to the broader diplomatic environment.
Addressing another issue, the spokesman said the release of a Pakistani vessel and its crew from Somali pirate captivity remained a government priority. He revealed that authorities had already held an inter-ministerial meeting to review the situation.
He further stated that the government was coordinating with Ansar Burney, local non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders to secure the crew’s release. Efforts to resolve the matter are continuing through various channels.
On regional developments, Andrabi said Pakistan had condemned Israeli bombardment in Lebanon. He also disclosed that Pakistan had facilitated the return of 30 Iranian nationals to their country.
The spokesman reiterated Pakistan’s position regarding Afghanistan. He said the Taliban must ensure that Afghan territory is not used against Pakistan. Additionally, he noted that Pakistan and China continue to cooperate closely in counterterrorism efforts and regional security matters.
Pakistan has maintained that dialogue and diplomatic engagement remain essential for addressing regional challenges and promoting long-term stability.
