ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has imposed a two-month ban on swimming in dams, rivers and nullahs across the federal capital.
Officials introduced the restriction because heavy rains and flooding can create dangerous conditions in water bodies. The ban took effect immediately under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Additional District Magistrate Islamabad Dr Anam Fatima issued the order on September 8, 2026.
Swimming Banned at Major Water Sites
The restriction covers several major recreational and water sites across Islamabad.
These include Rawal Dam, Simly Dam and Swan River, along with nullahs and other water channels.
The ban also covers Korang Nullah, Angori Road Nullah, Chattar Park Nullah, Shahdara and Sunday-Mar Dam.
Furthermore, the order applies to other streams and water channels located within the Islamabad Capital Territory.
Administration Cites Serious Safety Risks
According to the administration, swimming at these locations poses a serious threat to human life.
Officials also noted that incidents linked to swimming in these areas have already occurred. Therefore, the administration decided to introduce immediate preventive measures.
Rainfall can quickly increase water levels and strengthen currents in dams, rivers and nullahs. As a result, authorities have urged residents and visitors to avoid entering these areas.
Citizens Warned Against Violating Ban
The ICT Administration has advised citizens to strictly follow the restriction throughout the two-month period.
Authorities have specifically warned people against entering dams, rivers and nullahs for swimming or recreational activities.
Moreover, violators may face action under the relevant provisions of law.
The administration said the measure aims to protect residents and visitors during the period of increased rainfall and potential flooding. Citizens are therefore encouraged to avoid risky water activities and follow official safety instructions.
