Social Media Platforms to Face Continuous Monitoring
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has established a special cyber patrolling cell to monitor social media platforms during Muharram.
The step has been taken to prevent the spread of hateful, inflammatory, sectarian and objectionable content online.
According to NCCIA Director Ali Wasim, the special cyber cell will monitor social media platforms from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram. The purpose is to help maintain peace, public order and religious harmony during the sensitive period.
He said officers from NCCIAโs Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan regions have been included in the monitoring cell.
The agency will keep a close watch on digital platforms where provocative content, hate campaigns or sectarian material may be shared.
Officials said the monitoring effort is aimed at stopping online content that could create unrest or damage communal harmony.
Religious Scholars Urged to Promote Tolerance
The NCCIA has also written to religious scholars from all schools of thought. The agency has asked them to promote tolerance, unity and peaceful conduct through their sermons and public addresses.
Ali Wasim said scholars should guide people to avoid actions that could increase sectarian tension or disturb public order.
He added that responsible messaging from religious leaders could play an important role in keeping the environment peaceful.
The agency said public speeches and online messages should focus on respect, restraint and religious coexistence.
The move reflects growing concern over the role of social media in spreading misinformation, hate speech and provocative material during sensitive religious occasions.
Legal Action Warned Against Hate Campaigns
The NCCIA has warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone using social media to spread incitement, religious hatred or sectarian propaganda.
Officials said cases would be registered against individuals involved in sharing content that could provoke communal unrest or threaten religious harmony.
The agency said it would enforce a zero-tolerance policy during Muharram against elements trying to disrupt peace through online platforms.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid sharing unverified, hateful or inflammatory material. They have also asked the public to report suspicious content that may threaten peace and unity.
The special cyber patrolling cell is expected to remain active throughout the first 10 days of Muharram.
Officials said the main goal is to ensure that online spaces are not used to create division, fear or unrest.
With digital platforms playing a major role in public communication, the NCCIA says responsible online behavior is essential for maintaining national unity and religious harmony.
