New Safety Rule Announced for Motorways
The National Highway and Motorway Police has made fire extinguishers mandatory for all vehicles.
The new rule especially applies to passenger and cargo vehicles.
Officials said every vehicle must carry a working fire extinguisher.
The step has been taken to reduce fire risks during road accidents.
Vehicles Without Extinguishers to Face Action
According to the Motorway Police, strict legal action will begin after June 24.
Cargo and public service vehicles without fire extinguishers will not be allowed to enter motorways and national highways.
Drivers have also been told to check the expiry date of their extinguishers.
Expired or non-working fire extinguishers will not be accepted.
Fire Safety Campaign Underway
The Motorway Police has launched a nationwide awareness campaign.
The campaign will continue until June 24.
Officials said the purpose is to guide drivers before enforcement begins.
The decision comes after a deadly van fire on the Islamabad-Murree Expressway.
At least 10 people were killed and 13 others were injured after the van fell into a drainage channel near Khajut.
