Authorities Uncover Network Linked to Deadly Assault
Sindh Police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind last month’s deadly attack on a Rangers camp in Karachi, officials announced on Tuesday.
According to investigators, the suspects received training and operational support from Afghanistan before carrying out the attack.
The June 27 assault targeted a Sindh Rangers facility in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area. The attack claimed the lives of three Rangers personnel and left four others injured.
Investigation Leads to Key Arrests
During a press conference, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Akhtar Odho shared details of the investigation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Bahadur identified the alleged mastermind as Qari Basheer, also known as Qari Habib.
He said law enforcement agencies arrested the suspect during a Rangers-led operation conducted after the attack.
Police also arrested several alleged facilitators linked to Qari Basheer. In addition, authorities detained individuals accused of supplying weapons to the attackers.
Officials Allege Cross-Border Support
According to SSP Irfan Bahadur, the investigation found that individuals based in Afghanistan played a role in planning and supporting the attack.
Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said handlers operating from Afghan territory directed the attackers during the operation.
He alleged that the handlers instructed the group to cause maximum damage, take hostages, and disrupt peace in Karachi.
Lanjar added that investigators uncovered an extensive network of facilitators while examining the incident.
Investigation Continues
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to identify everyone connected to the attack.
Officials pledged to take legal action against all individuals involved in planning, facilitating, or carrying out the assault.
The June 27 attack involved explosives and gunfire targeting the Rangers camp. The incident raised fresh security concerns and prompted a large-scale investigation by law enforcement agencies.
Authorities said they will continue operations to dismantle networks linked to terrorism and strengthen security across the province.
