Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has criticised the government’s reduction in petroleum prices, calling the decision inadequate and anti-public. The party demanded that fuel prices reflect international market rates recorded before the recent US-Iran conflict.
JI Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed his views in a statement posted on X. Moreover, he accused the government of denying citizens the full benefit of lower global oil prices.
JI Demands Bigger Reduction in Fuel Prices
Rehman described the Rs1.97 per litre reduction in petroleum prices as unfortunate and shameful. He argued that the government should have announced a much larger decrease. Consequently, he claimed the public had been deprived of its rightful relief.
The JI chief also criticised the government’s economic management. He alleged that extravagant spending and poor governance had contributed to the current situation. Furthermore, he accused the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) of widespread corruption.
Party Announces Nationwide Protest Plan
Rehman claimed the government was collecting a “bhata tax” from citizens through the petroleum levy. He vowed that Jamaat-e-Islami would oppose the policy and continue raising the issue publicly.
He also urged people to stand up for their rights through peaceful public action. Meanwhile, the JI chief announced that the party would unveil a nationwide protest campaign within the next 48 hours.
The government has not yet responded publicly to the latest criticism from Jamaat-e-Islami regarding the petroleum price reduction.
