ISLAMABAD: The administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have sealed the Red Zone and closed all bus terminals at Faizabad ahead of the arrival of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The security measures will remain in place until 9 pm tomorrow to ensure smooth movement during the high-level visit.
President Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad today for a one-day official visit. During the trip, he will hold bilateral talks with Pakistan’s top leadership. The visit follows the recent signing of the United States-Iran peace agreement and reflects growing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Habibullah Abbasi, Director of Public Relations at the Iranian President’s Office, outlined the objectives of the visit. He said President Pezeshkian intends to acknowledge Pakistan’s role in facilitating mediation between Iran and the United States. He also plans to convey Iran’s appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts.
According to officials, authorities have suspended operations at all bus terminals in Faizabad as part of the security plan. Therefore, passengers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements during the restrictions.
In addition, law enforcement agencies have implemented a comprehensive security strategy across the federal capital and adjoining areas. Security personnel have increased patrols, established checkpoints, and tightened access to sensitive locations. Officials expect these measures to ensure the safe movement of visiting dignitaries and protect the public throughout the visit.
Furthermore, authorities have urged residents and commuters to cooperate with police and other security personnel. They have also advised the public to follow traffic diversions and avoid unnecessary travel near restricted zones.
Officials said the temporary measures are essential to maintain security and facilitate the successful completion of the Iranian president’s official engagements in Islamabad.
