Iran has called for a clear timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, saying the move is essential for achieving a lasting regional agreement.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei told journalists that Israeli forces should withdraw unconditionally from occupied Lebanese territory. He said a clear timeline for the withdrawal must be established.
Baqaei stated that protecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and ending the conflict are fundamental conditions for any durable agreement. He added that Iran’s position is based on the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The spokesperson also urged the United States to take steps to halt what he described as Israeli military actions in Lebanon. According to Baqaei, the full implementation of any memorandum of understanding depends on ending the Israeli presence in occupied areas.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iran’s full oversight for the next 30 days.
Araghchi warned that any unilateral intervention in the strategic waterway could further delay its reopening. He stressed the importance of avoiding actions that might increase regional tensions.
The foreign minister made the remarks during a joint news conference in Baghdad alongside Fuad Hussein.
According to Iranian officials, the meeting focused on regional security, bilateral relations and recent developments following the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
Iran has continued emphasizing diplomatic efforts while linking long-term regional stability to developments in Lebanon and the Strait of Hormuz. However, no official response from Israel or the United States to the latest Iranian statements was immediately available.
