India again released water into the River Chenab without prior notice, creating a low-level flood situation at Head Marala in Pakistan, according to 24NewsHD on Monday. The latest release has raised fresh concerns over water management and cross-border river flows.
According to the report, India opened two gates of the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River. Earlier, authorities released additional water from the Dul Hasti Dam. Later, officials opened the Baglihar gates to discharge excess water arriving from the upstream reservoir.
Water Levels Continue to Rise
However, sources said India has not disclosed the exact volume of water released from the dams. As a result, Pakistani authorities continue monitoring river conditions closely.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) confirmed that water levels at Head Marala have risen steadily. Officials reported that river inflows increased from 41,000 cusecs a day earlier to 62,000 cusecs.
Furthermore, the FFD warned that a low-level flood could develop at Head Marala within the next 24 hours if water levels continue increasing. Authorities remain alert and are tracking the river’s flow to assess any further changes.
Officials Monitor River Conditions
In addition, water outflows at Head Marala have increased significantly. According to the FFD, outflows climbed from 14,000 cusecs to 35,000 cusecs during the same period.
Authorities have not reported any immediate damage or evacuations. However, officials continue monitoring the situation because further upstream releases could affect downstream water levels. Emergency agencies also remain prepared to respond if river conditions worsen in the coming hours.
