Rumoured iPhone Fold may feature an iPad-style interface, refined hinge and starting price near $2,000

Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with its first folding iPhone, tentatively called the iPhone Fold, as leaks point towards a premium device focused on portability, multitasking and a slim profile.

Early reports suggest Apple has prioritised reducing thickness, traditionally one of the biggest challenges facing foldable smartphones. Test devices reportedly feature a thin, pocket-friendly construction alongside a refined hinge designed to provide smooth opening and closing.

Moreover, Apple is reportedly working to minimise the visible display crease, another common criticism of existing foldable devices.

Large Display Could Deliver iPad-Like Experience

When unfolded, the device is expected to offer a larger internal display with an interface inspired by the iPad. The expanded screen could support enhanced multitasking while giving users additional space for productivity, entertainment and other applications.

The larger display could also provide photographers with a significantly bigger camera viewfinder.

However, Apple may make one notable compromise. Reports suggest the foldable iPhone will feature only wide and ultra-wide rear cameras, leaving out the telephoto lens available on conventional Pro Max models.

Manufacturers face considerable engineering challenges when incorporating sophisticated optical zoom hardware into extremely thin foldable devices. Consequently, Apple may sacrifice telephoto capability to maintain its desired dimensions.

Premium Pricing Expected for Apple’s Foldable Debut

Meanwhile, early estimates suggest the foldable iPhone could become Apple’s most expensive smartphone. Reports place its potential starting price at around $2,000, while higher-storage configurations could exceed $2,500.

The company has not officially confirmed the device, its specifications or pricing, meaning current details remain based on leaks and industry reports.

Nevertheless, Apple could introduce the foldable alongside its iPhone 18 lineup in the fall.

Reports also suggest Apple may redesign sections of its retail stores to showcase the new form factor prominently, potentially signalling a major expansion of the company’s hardware portfolio beyond traditional iPhones.
