New adventure tourism initiative offers aerial views of northern Pakistan as authorities explore additional attractions for visitors to scenic region

NARAN: A hot air balloon has successfully completed a test flight in Naran, one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s leading tourist destinations, potentially paving the way for commercial balloon rides in the picturesque valley.

During the test flight, the balloon reached an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet above sea level, providing sweeping aerial views of Naran Valley and its surrounding mountainous landscape.

The balloon can carry up to five people at a time. Moreover, professional operators who received specialised training in Turkey are managing the activity to provide technical expertise during flights.

The successful trial forms part of broader efforts to diversify tourism activities in northern Pakistan and introduce visitors to new adventure experiences.

New Attraction Could Boost Adventure Tourism

Tourism operators hope hot air balloon rides will give visitors another way to explore Naran’s landscape while expanding the range of recreational activities available in the popular destination.

Consequently, the initiative could complement existing attractions that draw thousands of domestic and international tourists to the region during the summer tourism season.

Naran serves as a major gateway to several well-known destinations, including Saif-ul-Muluk Lake, and remains among Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s busiest mountain tourism centres.

The balloon initiative could also encourage longer tourist stays by adding a distinctive aerial sightseeing experience.

Previous Trial Conducted in Balakot

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has previously experimented with hot air balloon tourism in another scenic location.

Authorities conducted a similar test last year at Basiya in Balakot, an area known for its natural beauty and historical importance.

The latest successful flight in Naran represents another step toward establishing ballooning as a regular adventure tourism activity in the province.

However, details regarding ticket prices, operating schedules and the formal launch of commercial rides have not yet been announced.

If introduced permanently, hot air balloon rides could add a new dimension to Naran’s tourism industry while giving visitors panoramic views of some of northern Pakistan’s most striking mountain scenery.
