Tehran: Armed assailants opened fire on a police patrol in Iran’s southeastern city of Zahedan on Wednesday, killing one officer and injuring three others, according to local reports.
The attack occurred in the morning as law enforcement personnel carried out routine duties aimed at maintaining public security in Sistan and Balouchestan province. Officials said unidentified gunmen targeted the patrol unit, triggering a sudden exchange that left casualties among the police ranks.
Sergeant Major Mohammad Reza Nezamdoost was killed in the incident, while three other officers sustained injuries. Emergency services transported the wounded personnel to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities have not yet disclosed the condition of the injured officers.
Moreover, security forces immediately launched an operation to track down those responsible. Officials said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the attackers, although no group has claimed responsibility so far.
