Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan announced that all election-related complaints will be decided on June 15. The complaints concern the general elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly held on June 7.
He said the Election Commission would decide every case on merit under the Election Act, 2017. Meanwhile, officials continued hearing complaints received from different constituencies.
Election Commission Reviews Complaints
Khan said the commission started receiving complaints on June 8 after the polling process concluded. So far, officials have decided 10 applications following detailed hearings.
Furthermore, he said lawyers representing all complainants received full opportunities to present their arguments. The commission, he added, ensured a fair hearing for every applicant.
Khan also confirmed that the complaint filed by Fahad Hanif would be heard on Sunday. The commission expects to complete all remaining hearings before announcing decisions.
CEC Defends Transparency Of Elections
The chief election commissioner maintained that the Gilgit-Baltistan elections remained free, fair and transparent. However, he expressed concern over what he described as misleading information circulating on social media.
He urged people to avoid making baseless allegations against the Election Commission. Instead, he advised anyone questioning the election process to seek legal remedies through appropriate forums.
Moreover, Khan said the commission fulfilled all constitutional and legal obligations during the elections. He added that officials provided Form 45 to every candidate at all polling stations.
Finally, the chief election commissioner thanked political parties, lawyers and media representatives for supporting the peaceful conduct of the elections. He said their cooperation helped ensure an orderly and transparent electoral process.
