Funeral prayers for Pakistan Army personnel martyred in a helicopter crash were offered on Thursday in Rawalpindi. Senior political and military leaders attended the ceremony at Chaklala Garrison.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the martyrs lost their lives after a Pakistan Army Aviation Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad. The incident occurred during take-off on Wednesday due to a technical fault.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the funeral prayers alongside senior government officials. Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also participated in the ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar attended as well. Relatives of the martyrs, military officials, and members of the public were also present.
National Leadership Pays Tribute To Martyrs
Earlier, funeral services for two Christian soldiers were held at Christ Church in Rawalpindi. Political and military leaders attended those services to honour their sacrifices.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to the fallen personnel. He praised their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to national security.
The prime minister said their sacrifices would inspire future generations. Moreover, he reaffirmed the nationโs support for the bereaved families.
He emphasized that the services of Pakistanโs armed forces remain invaluable. Furthermore, he noted that their sacrifices for peace and sovereignty would never be forgotten.
Inquiry Ordered Into Helicopter Crash
The ISPR said all personnel on board embraced martyrdom in the crash. Unfortunately, authorities reported no survivors from the incident.
Rescue and recovery teams reached the accident site shortly afterward. They immediately launched relief and recovery operations in the area.
Meanwhile, military authorities have ordered a board of inquiry. The investigation will determine the exact technical cause of the accident.
The ISPR stated that the martyrs will be buried in their native towns. They will receive full military honours during their final rites.
