
Tuesday saw an ex-pupil open fire at his former secondary school in Turkey, leaving 16 people wounded, including pupils, before taking his own life, sources reported. The special forces responded rapidly to the site after emergency calls were placed regarding the shooting. Sources said the attacker, who is a 19-year-old male, had used a rifle during the attack and committed suicide when the police caught up with him. Governor Hasan Sildak provided information to the media about the event.
Attack in Southeastern Turkiye School
After the incident, the wounded people were taken to hospitals located in the close vicinity of the Siverek area. The sources claimed that out of 16 injured individuals, only 12 patients were hospitalized for medical aid. In addition, most of the wounded were found to be students from the school.
As reported by the news sources, the footage from the television revealed ambulances parked at the entrance. However, it should be noted that school attacks still happen seldom in Turkiye. The security forces cordoned off the location to prevent any more harm.
Security Response and Investigation Launched
A special squad was promptly dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire at the school. According to Governor Hasan Sildak, the police managed to evacuate all students from the site within minutes. The governor went further to say that the gunman who is 19 years old died after being surrounded by police teams. The investigation team will now proceed to establish the motivation of the act, as well as the source of the gun. There have been calls from authorities for a thorough investigation to ensure such occurrences do not happen again.
