An overseas Pakistani has filed a compensation suit after losing one eye in a road accident. The incident allegedly occurred at the Karachi BRT Red Line construction site.
The case was filed before the Senior Civil Judge (East). The complainant is seeking Rs 178.07 million in damages from the Sindh government, BRT authorities, and the project contractor.
According to the lawsuit, the compensation covers medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, permanent disability, and other related losses. The court has yet to decide the matter.
Lawsuit Alleges Negligence at Construction Site
Advocate Usman Farooq, counsel for complainant Syed Waqas, said his client visited Pakistan in 2025 to perform Hajj. During May 2025, he was travelling to Karachi airport via University Road.
The lawyer said Waqasโs vehicle collided with a barrier installed for BRT Red Line construction. He alleged the barrier lacked reflective markings and adequate warning signs.
According to the complaint, the collision caused Waqas to lose one eye. He also suffered severe facial fractures during the accident.
The lawsuit argues that authorities failed to implement essential public safety measures. Consequently, the complainant holds the project authorities responsible for the injuries.
Plaintiff Seeks Compensation for Medical Losses
The complainant has asked the court to award Rs 178.07 million in compensation. The claim includes treatment costs, rehabilitation expenses, permanent disability, and other damages.
Advocate Farooq maintained that proper safety arrangements could have prevented the accident. He alleged negligence in placing barriers and warning motorists about the construction work.
The defendants include the Sindh government, the BRT administration, and the project’s contractor. The case will proceed before the Senior Civil Judge (East) for further hearings.
