Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has recommended 11 senior lawyers for appointment to the Lahore High Court. She forwarded the names to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan for consideration. The recommendations aim to fill 10 vacant judgeships at the Lahore High Court. Meanwhile, the commission will review the proposed candidates before making final appointments.
Senior Lawyers Feature on Recommended List
According to sources, the nominees include Ghulam Sarwar Nahang, who currently serves as Prosecutor General Islamabad. Syed Farhad Ali Shah, Prosecutor General Punjab, also appears on the list. Additionally, Amjad Pervaiz, Advocate General Punjab, received a recommendation. Deputy Attorney General Asad Bajwa is also among the proposed candidates.
The remaining nominees include senior advocates Munawar Dogal, Shireen Imran, and Muhammad Ajmal. Furthermore, Kashif Rajwana, Usman Ghani Rashid, Ameer Ajam, and Khalid Bin Aziz complete the list. Together, the recommendations include experienced legal professionals from both public offices and private practice.
Judicial Commission to Review Nominations
Earlier, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan asked its members to submit nominations by July 4. Consequently, the nomination process concluded within the prescribed timeline. The commission will now move to the next stage of the appointment process.
The Judicial Commission will assess the credentials and suitability of each recommended lawyer. Afterward, members will deliberate before making their final decisions. The appointments seek to fill the existing judicial vacancies through the constitutional process. Therefore, the commission’s review will determine who joins the Lahore High Court bench. Officials have not announced a timeline for the final appointments.
