A search operation is underway in Rawalpindi after a young child went missing during heavy rainfall after reportedly falling into a sewer drain, raising renewed concerns about public safety during severe weather conditions in urban areas.
Emergency teams responded quickly after receiving information about the incident and immediately launched rescue efforts at the location.
The incident occurred as rainfall affected different parts of the city and increased water flow through drainage channels.
Child Reportedly Falls Into Sewer Drain During Rain
According to available details, the incident took place near Kacha Stop on I.J.P. Road during rainfall. Reports indicated that the missing child is believed to be between six and seven years old.
The child reportedly fell into a drainage channel while rainwater continued to flow through the area. Soon after the emergency alert was received, rescue authorities reached the location and began search efforts.
Rescue Teams Launch Immediate Search Operation
Rescue 1122 mobilized multiple emergency response units to support the operation.
Five emergency vehicles were dispatched to the site, including ambulances, water rescue teams, fire response vehicles, and medical support units.
Search teams continued efforts to trace the child while maintaining strict monitoring across the surrounding area.
Authorities stated that rescue operations remain active and teams continue to assess conditions on the ground.
Rainfall Recorded Across Multiple Areas of Rawalpindi
As rescue efforts continued, rainfall measurements from several parts of the city were also released.
Gawalmandi received 33 millimetres of rainfall.
Kachehri recorded 19 millimetres.
Shamsabad received 17 millimetres.
Meanwhile, New Katarian recorded 16 millimetres and Pirwadhai received 14 millimetres.
The rainfall increased pressure on urban drainage infrastructure and raised concerns about movement near open water channels.
Water Levels Remain Below Alert Threshold
Authorities also shared updates regarding water levels in local drainage systems. According to sensor readings, the water level in Katarian Nullah reached five feet. Gawalmandi recorded a water level of 2.5 feet.
Despite rainfall across multiple areas, officials stated that water levels remain below the pre-alert threshold. Authorities added that there is currently no major flood threat in the city. However, monitoring continues to ensure conditions remain under control.
