TEHRAN: Unspecified of IRGC personnel were killed in Saravan Iranian Baluchistan, Saturday, reports received here maintained. As per the available information; the Iranian security forces fought armed Baluch militants for about nine hours in, leaving members of both sides dead after heavy weapons and rocket-propelled grenades were reportedly used during the clashes.
Fighting began around 4am in Saravan’s Bakhshan district in Sistan and Baluchistan province. Residents reported intense gunfire as hundreds of IRGC, police and intelligence personnel joined the operation, while drones reportedly searched for militants.
Videos from the area showed residents fleeing, ambulances arriving and damage to at least one house.
IRGC Says Four Militants and Two Personnel Killed
The IRGC Ground Forces’ Quds Base said security forces targeted what it described as a “professional terrorist team” allegedly preparing assassinations in Saravan.
The IRGC said four militants and two of its personnel were killed, while security forces seized weapons, ammunition and explosives.
However, the newly formed Popular Fighters Front offered a different casualty account. The group acknowledged losing four members but claimed it killed nine security personnel and wounded 21 others. Neither side’s full casualty claims were independently verified.
New Baluch Group Claims Role in Fighting
The Popular Fighters Front said it sent reinforcements after Iranian forces surrounded one of its units and claimed six fighters escaped.
Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni militant organisation designated as a terrorist group by Iran and the United States, announced the coalition’s formation with other Baluch factions last year.
Meanwhile, security forces maintained a heavy presence in Bakhshan after Saturday’s fighting and blocked roads leading towards the battle sites.
Residents reported renewed shooting near military posts on Sunday, although its cause remained unclear, highlighting continuing security tensions in Iran’s volatile southeastern border region.
