Rescue Teams Shift Injured to Hospital
Two people, including a child, were killed and several others were injured in a suicide blast near a mosque in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to Rescue 1122.
The explosion took place near a mosque in Khairo Khel Pacca village.
Rescue 1122 said eight-year-old Asma Bibi and 25-year-old Asad Ali lost their lives in the attack. Several injured people were also reported after the blast.
Rescue teams reached the scene soon after receiving information about the explosion. First aid was provided to the injured at the site.
The injured were later shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Tajazai for medical treatment.
Emergency teams continued rescue work in the affected area as security personnel moved to control the site.
Attacker Failed to Enter Mosque, Police Say
A police official told Anadolu on condition of anonymity that early details suggested the attacker tried to enter the mosque during Friday prayer.
According to the official, the attacker failed to reach inside the mosque and detonated explosives outside.
The initial account suggests that the mosque may have been the intended target.
Security officials are expected to examine the blast site and collect evidence as part of the investigation.
The attack has raised fresh concern over the safety of worshippers in southern districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Lakki Marwat has witnessed repeated attacks in recent years. Police, security forces and public areas have often been targeted.
Lakki Marwat Faces Rising Security Threats
The latest blast comes after several violent incidents in the district.
Last month, nine people, including two traffic police personnel, were killed and 33 others were injured in an explosion in Sarai Naurang area of Lakki Marwat.
Initial investigations into that incident suggested that explosive material had been planted in a motorcycle.
In April, at least seven people, including three police personnel, were injured in an improvised explosive device blast in Sarai Naurang.
That attack reportedly targeted a police vehicle near a vegetable market.
In another incident, seven police personnel, including the station house officer of Shadi Khel Police Station, were killed in an explosion near a police mobile in Lakki Marwat.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has seen a sharp rise in terrorist attacks. The province recorded the highest number of incidents last year.
Officials said the latest attack shows the continuing threat faced by civilians and law enforcement agencies in the region.
Security forces are expected to increase monitoring in sensitive areas after the mosque blast.
The investigation remains underway as authorities work to identify the network behind the attack.
