The Balochistan government has launched a Rs. 1.58 billion school meal program for primary students in Quetta. The initiative aims to improve child nutrition and overall health. Moreover, officials introduced the project as a pilot program.
The government allocated Rs. 315.9 million for the current financial year. Meanwhile, the total project cost stands at Rs. 1.579 billion. Officials expect the program to support thousands of schoolchildren.
Nutrition and Health Projects Expand
The school meal program supports Balochistanโs wider health and development strategy. Furthermore, authorities continue investing in maternal and child healthcare. A Comprehensive Maternal and Child Health Program carries a total cost of Rs. 2 billion.
The government allocated Rs. 228.8 million for the ongoing fiscal year. In addition, officials continue expanding school-based nutrition and sanitation initiatives. These efforts target healthier learning environments for young students.
Officials believe better nutrition will improve attendance and academic performance. Consequently, the province hopes to achieve stronger public health outcomes across underserved communities.
Focus on Schools and Sanitation
The provincial government also continues work on school WASH facilities. The project carries a total cost of Rs. 2 billion. Authorities have allocated Rs. 200 million for current implementation.
The scheme aims to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene standards. As a result, students will benefit from safer school environments. Meanwhile, officials established a Maternal, Newborn and Child Health facility at Eastern Bypass Quetta.
The health facility project costs Rs. 400 million. Additionally, the government allocated Rs. 200 million during the current year. Therefore, these initiatives will strengthen healthcare, nutrition, and sanitation services across Balochistan.
