Babar Azam, who leads the batting team Peshawar Zalmi, faced a frustrating incident in the PSL 11 finals match when he was out for a duck against Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
He required only one run to surpass the record of 588 runs set by Fakhar Zaman. Nevertheless, he could not make even a single run, thus missing the record. It is important to mention here that Fakhar Zaman established this record in the 2022 season while playing for Lahore Qalandars.
Record Still Within Reach Despite Final Setback
Even with this misstep, Babar has performed exceptionally well throughout the whole tournament. The player equaled Zaman’s 588 runs in just 11 matches with an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of 145.90. Furthermore, the player also had a great tournament with two centuries and three half-centuries.
Previously, Babar had many high-scoring PSL seasons, scoring 569 runs in 2024 and 554 runs in 2021. Additionally, other notable names among the top run-scorers in the history of the PSL include players such as Mohammad Rizwan and Kusal Mendis.
Milestone Moments Highlight a Stellar Season
In an earlier game in the tournament, Babar produced a magnificent show against Islamabad United in the Qualifier. In this innings, he scored an amazing 103 runs off 59 balls, which included 12 fours and four sixes, setting up a huge score for Zalmi.
Moreover, his century off 57 balls in this game was his second hundred of the season. Therefore, he became only the second batsman in the PSL’s history to score two hundreds in one PSL, joining Usman Khan.
While Babar could not perform well in the final, his entire effort in the tournament has certainly made him one of the most prominent players of PSL 11.
