A judicial magistrate in Karachi has granted bail to a police officer’s son. The suspect was arrested after a heated exchange with officials in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The incident gained attention after a video went viral on social media. It showed the man arguing with police during a roadside check.
He was later released on personal surety late Friday night. Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are still ongoing.
FIR Registered Under Multiple Legal Sections
Police registered a case against the suspect based on a formal complaint. The FIR included several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
These sections relate to obstructing public servants and impersonating officials. They also cover use of force against law enforcement personnel.
The charges stemmed from the suspect’s alleged conduct during the confrontation. Authorities claimed he resisted police action and created a disturbance.
Court Proceedings and Bail Decision
The suspect appeared before Judicial Magistrate (South) Aasim Aslam on Saturday. His legal team argued in favour of bail during the hearing.
Defence counsel stated that the FIR was filed despite an earlier understanding. However, the court reviewed the case based on legal provisions.
The judge noted that the charges fall under bailable offences. Therefore, the court granted bail against surety bonds worth Rs50,000.
The order stated that the suspect was “produced in police custody” and “did not complain of maltreatment at the hands of police”.
The court also directed authorities to complete the investigation within the required timeframe. A final report must be submitted as per legal procedure.
Details of the Incident in DHA
According to the complaint, police officials were on patrol near Qayyumabad in DHA Phase 7. They spotted a black Toyota Revo with police lights and tinted windows.
Officers considered the vehicle suspicious and attempted to stop it. However, the driver reportedly refused to cooperate.
He allegedly stated, “my mother is an SP and this car belongs to her” while declining to disclose his identity.
Police informed him that using official lights on private vehicles is illegal. The situation then escalated into a confrontation.
Allegations of Resistance and Escape
The FIR states that the suspect ordered “gunmen accompanying him” to push a police officer. During the altercation, he allegedly grabbed the officer’s collar.
Officials claimed he used abusive language before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended and taken into custody.
The case highlights concerns about misuse of authority-linked privileges. It also raises questions about compliance with traffic and legal regulations.
Police Response and Internal Inquiry
Police authorities denied reports that the suspect’s mother stormed the station. Instead, officials said she “visited” to present her position.
Senior officers clarified that all vehicles with suspicious features can be stopped. They stressed that law enforcement has the authority to conduct checks.
An internal inquiry has also been initiated. The Clifton superintendent of police has been appointed to oversee the investigation.
Additionally, departmental action has begun against guards present in the vehicle. The conduct of officers at the checkpoint is also under review.
“No One Is Above the Law”
Police reiterated a strong message following the incident. They stated that official privileges cannot be misused by anyone.
The department emphasized, “No one is above the law,” reinforcing its stance on accountability.
Authorities also warned citizens against using fake number plates or police lights. They stated that strict action will be taken against violations.
Legal Process Continues
While bail has been granted, the case remains under investigation. Authorities are expected to submit findings within the legal timeframe.
The incident continues to draw public attention due to its viral nature. It also highlights broader issues related to law enforcement and public conduct.
For now, the legal process will determine the final outcome.
