The federal government has approved another Rs3 billion to strengthen transport arrangements for the upcoming SCO summit. The funding will cover 15 bulletproof sedan vehicles for visiting foreign leaders.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet approved the additional amount on Monday. Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit in Islamabad in September 2027.
The latest approval comes shortly after the ECC sanctioned Rs6.6 billion for the same procurement. Therefore, the combined approvals now cover a substantial allocation for secure transportation arrangements.
Why Are More Bulletproof Cars Needed?
The Cabinet Division requested the additional funding through a Technical Supplementary Grant. Officials considered the vehicles necessary for the secure transportation of visiting heads of state during the high-profile international gathering.
The newly approved Rs3 billion will specifically finance 15 bulletproof sedans. These vehicles will support transportation arrangements for foreign leaders attending the summit in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, the ECC stressed the need for timely and comprehensive preparations for the international event. Security and transportation remain important parts of arrangements for a summit involving senior leaders from SCO member countries.
Pakistan Reviews Arrangements From Kyrgyzstan Summit
During its meeting, the ECC also reviewed security and transport arrangements used during the recent SCO heads of state summit in Kyrgyzstan.
The committee appreciated those preparations and considered them a model Pakistan could follow while preparing for its own summit. As a result, authorities are looking to ensure that arrangements are completed well ahead of the 2027 event.
The SCO Council of Heads of State Summit brings together leaders from member countries. Consequently, the host country must prepare appropriate security and transportation arrangements for the visiting delegations.
With the latest Rs3 billion approval, preparations for the Islamabad summit are gaining further financial support. The allocation will allow the government to purchase 15 additional bulletproof sedans for secure transportation.
