The Punjab Home Department has approved changes to its agreement with NADRA concerning digital arms license credentials. The amendment will allow citizens to obtain verifiable digital credentials linked to their Punjab arms licenses.
Under the revised arrangement, the agreement between the Punjab Home Department and NADRA will remain valid until December 31, 2026. Its updated validity covers the period from January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2026.
What Has Changed in the Digital Arms License Agreement?
The amended agreement removes the single sign-on authentication provision. It also eliminates the shared login clause because of technical and security concerns.
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) had recommended removing the single sign-on provision from the amended draft. Following that recommendation, the revised agreement underwent a legal review before receiving approval.
The changes therefore reshape how digital credentials will be provided and authenticated under the arrangement between Punjab and NADRA.
Digital Arms Licenses Through Pak ID Wallet
Under the new system, citizens will be able to obtain their digital arms licenses instantly through the Pak ID Wallet. The platform will issue verifiable digital credentials linked to Punjab arms licenses.
This system is expected to make license verification more convenient for citizens. Moreover, digital credentials can provide license holders with an easier way to demonstrate their license status when required.
Officials said the initiative is designed to make arms license verification easier, faster, and more secure. Therefore, the digital system will offer a more convenient method for checking and proving the validity of Punjab arms licenses.
The revised arrangement also reflects changes made after technical and security considerations. In particular, removing shared login access addresses concerns surrounding the way users access the system.
With the agreement now extended through December 31, 2026, the digital arms license arrangement will continue under the revised terms. Meanwhile, citizens will gain access to verifiable digital credentials through the Pak ID Wallet.
The move is set to simplify how Punjab arms license holders verify and prove their license status. As a result, digital credentials could make the verification process more straightforward when proof of a valid license is required.
