Pakistan Customs officials have arrested two Umrah-bound passengers after recovering a large quantity of cigarettes from their luggage at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.
The passengers were preparing to board a flight to Jeddah when customs authorities detected the prohibited items during routine baggage screening.
Cigarettes Recovered During Luggage Scanning
According to Customs officials, the cigarettes were discovered while scanning luggage for flight PF-714. During the inspection, authorities recovered 260 sleeves, equivalent to 2,600 packets of cigarettes, from the passengers’ baggage.
The seizure was made before the passengers departed for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
Legal Action Initiated
Following the recovery, Customs officials arrested the two passengers. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against them under the Customs Act, 1969.
The investigation will proceed in accordance with the applicable customs laws.
Customs Reaffirms Anti-Smuggling Operations
Pakistan Customs said it will continue its operations against smuggling activities. The department remains committed to preventing the illegal transportation of goods through the country’s airports and other entry and exit points.
Authorities have not released further details about the passengers or the ongoing investigation.
