Pakistan national selector Aaqib Javed has rejected reports that he could soon resign or leave his position with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). His comments come amid growing speculation about possible changes within the board’s cricket administration.
The former Pakistan fast bowler dismissed reports about his departure as baseless. Responding to the speculation, Aaqib said, “No resignation, it’s fake news,” ruling out the resignation reports circulating around his position.
Aaqib Javed Denies Reports of PCB Exit
The reports emerged amid speculation that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi could introduce major changes following Pakistan’s recent struggles. These reports included the possibility of Aaqib leaving his role as senior selector.
They also suggested that women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz could leave his position after the Asian Games in Japan. However, Aaqib has now directly rejected reports concerning his own resignation.
Aaqib has remained an important figure in PCB cricket administration over the past two years. He serves on the national selection committee and also works as director of high performance.
England Test Tour Changes Put Aaqib Under Scrutiny
Aaqib has faced criticism over several decisions involving Pakistan cricket during his time in the PCB setup. Critics have particularly questioned frequent changes involving coaching staff and captaincy.
The controversial changes during Pakistan’s recent Test tour of England also drew attention. After Pakistan lost the second Test at Lord’s, the board sent seven players home.
The PCB subsequently replaced head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. Pakistan then suffered a 3-0 series whitewash and fell to the bottom of the World Test Championship table.
Selection panel colleague Misbahul Haq resigned following the developments. However, Aaqib had already indicated that he did not intend to step down from his position.
Why Is the PCB Considering Changes?
Reports have also linked the latest speculation to white-ball coach Mike Hesson’s willingness to oversee the Test team. This development may have contributed to discussions about Pakistan’s cricket setup.
Meanwhile, Aaqib has previously defended the changes made during the England tour. He argued that the team had failed to compete and needed a change in mindset.
For now, however, Aaqib has publicly dismissed speculation about his own departure. His statement comes as questions continue around Pakistan’s cricket administration following the England Test series.
