Türkiye and Pakistan have expanded their cooperation in artificial intelligence through a new academic and research partnership.
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), University of the Punjab (PU) and Yıldız Technical University signed a tripartite protocol in Lahore on Tuesday. The agreement will promote education, research and innovation in human-centred artificial intelligence.
Focus on Human-Centred AI
The initiative aims to develop AI with greater focus on human needs and social benefits. It will also promote ethical principles, trust and responsible technological development.
Under the agreement, an advanced AI Laboratory established by TİKA at the University of the Punjab will support the partnership.
The facility will provide a platform for joint research and academic training. It will also support postgraduate studies and innovative AI projects.
The laboratory is expected to create more opportunities for Pakistani and Turkish researchers, academics and students.
Universities to Strengthen AI Research
The partnership will encourage knowledge and expertise sharing between Türkiye and Pakistan.
Yıldız Technical University has identified artificial intelligence and digitalisation among its strategic research areas.
Its Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering works on research and development across emerging AI technologies. The University of the Punjab will use the newly established laboratory as a hub for joint academic initiatives.
The facility could also support future research projects involving researchers from both countries.
New Phase in Türkiye-Pakistan Cooperation
The agreement reflects a growing focus on responsible and people-oriented artificial intelligence.
TİKA’s international cooperation model focuses on people-centred development and sustainable solutions for partner countries. The new laboratory is expected to strengthen collaboration between Türkiye and Pakistan in education, science and technology.
