Pakistan bowling coach clarifies misunderstanding and rejects claims of internal dispute during Bangladesh Test
SYLHET: Pakistan red-ball bowling coach Umar Gul has dismissed speculation surrounding a viral video involving fast bowler Shaheen Afridi during the second Test against Bangladesh, clarifying that the incident had no connection with any disagreement within the team.
The video, which circulated widely on social media following the match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, triggered claims that Shaheen Afridi had shown disrespect toward Gul during an on-field exchange. As a result, the footage sparked widespread debate and generated speculation among cricket fans online.
However, Gul addressed the issue during a press conference and firmly rejected suggestions of tension inside the Pakistan camp. He explained that social media users had misinterpreted the situation and created assumptions without verified information.
Furthermore, the former fast bowler stated that the interaction was part of normal communication during the game and had nothing to do with conflict or disciplinary concerns.
According to Gul, the discussion related to Hasan Ali, who had temporarily left the field after suffering a head injury during the match. He explained that officials simply informed Shaheen Afridi about the situation as part of routine team coordination.
โThere was a misunderstanding on social media regarding Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali. Hasan Ali had suffered a head injury and was off the field, and Shaheen was informed about the situation. There is no issue, but it was interpreted differently online,โ Gul said.
Meanwhile, the clarification has addressed growing online discussions that emerged after the video gained attention. The incident also highlighted how short clips shared on social media can quickly fuel assumptions and create narratives before official explanations become available.
