Washington dismisses delayed nuclear talks
A U.S. official said Monday that President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal because it failed to address Tehranโs nuclear program. The official stated that Trump โdoesnโt love the proposal,โ underscoring Washingtonโs dissatisfaction. Earlier, Trump met with senior national security advisers to review the offer. However, the administration maintained that any agreement must directly confront nuclear concerns from the beginning.
Meanwhile, Iranian sources indicated that the proposal aimed to postpone nuclear discussions until after the ongoing conflict ends. They added that the plan prioritized resolving disputes over Gulf shipping routes first. In contrast, U.S. officials insisted that nuclear negotiations cannot wait, reinforcing a key sticking point between both sides.
Tensions persist as diplomacy stalls
At the same time, the broader U.S.-Iran conflict remains deadlocked. Energy supplies from the region have declined, intensifying global concerns. Satellite imagery has also revealed new damage at Iranโs Natanz nuclear facility, highlighting the conflictโs escalating risks.
Although mediation efforts continue, progress appears limited. Pakistani officials, acting as intermediaries, confirmed that communication channels remain open. Nevertheless, optimism has faded in recent days. Over the weekend, Trump canceled a planned visit to Islamabad by envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner. This decision signaled a slowdown in diplomatic engagement.
Consequently, both sides remain entrenched in their positions. While negotiators attempt to bridge gaps, disagreements over nuclear priorities and regional security continue to hinder any breakthrough. As tensions persist, prospects for a near-term resolution appear increasingly uncertain.
