RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi and Islamabad have faced torrential monsoon rains for several days, raising the water level in Nala Lai above 22 feet at Katarian.
Authorities sounded warning sirens and urged residents living near the drain to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall continued across the twin cities.
Meanwhile, persistent rain inundated low-lying areas and placed additional pressure on drainage systems. WASA teams deployed heavy machinery at Nala Lai and other vulnerable locations.
The teams continued monitoring water levels and carrying out dewatering operations to prevent further urban flooding.
According to the latest rainfall data, Saidpur received the highest rainfall at 66 millimetres. Furthermore, intermittent rain continued across several areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Authorities remained on high alert after repeated heavy spells caused water accumulation and flooding at multiple locations.
Traffic police issue safety advisory
Meanwhile, Islamabad Traffic Police issued a special advisory as heavy rain continued across the capital.
Police urged motorists and motorcyclists to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
Drivers should also remain within designated lanes and use fog lights during rainfall. They should also ensure proper use of mirrors, indicators and seat belts.
Additionally, traffic police directed motorcyclists to use the extreme left lane and wear helmets.
Personnel have been deployed on major roads to assist motorists and promote safe driving during the adverse weather.
