Rawalpindi Court Grants Police Physical Remand of Two Suspects
A Rawalpindi court has granted police three-day physical remand of Hina Javedโs husband and a domestic worker as investigators continue probing her suspected murder at an apartment in the city.
The two suspects were produced before a duty magistrate on Sunday by Civil Lines police, who requested their custody for further investigation.
The court accepted the request and directed police to produce a progress report after the three-day remand period ends.
Hina was found dead on Thursday evening in the washroom of her apartment at Askari Apartments in the Lal Kurti area of Rawalpindi.
Police said her body showed signs of violence. An electrical wire was found around her neck and tied to the shower rod, while her hands had reportedly been bound behind her back.
Her husband and the familyโs domestic worker were subsequently detained in connection with the case.
Police are treating the death as a murder investigation, although responsibility has not yet been established by a court.
FIR Names Husband, Father-in-Law and Domestic Worker
The case was registered at Civil Lines Police Station on August 20 under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to murder and common intention.
Hinaโs brother, Fahid Javed, is the complainant in the FIR.
He alleged that his sister was killed by her husband, her father-in-law and their domestic worker.
According to the complaint, Fahid received a call from Hinaโs father-in-law at approximately 6:53pm on Thursday, informing him that there was an emergency at the residence.
He said he immediately travelled to the apartment with other family members and arrived at around 7:23pm.
Fahid told police that he found his sisterโs body inside the bathroom.
He further alleged that Hina had previously been subjected to severe mistreatment and violence by her husband.
The complainant also raised the possibility that she may have been given a poisonous substance before her death.
These claims form part of the FIR and remain subject to police and forensic investigation.
Hina had married the principal suspect in November 2025, meaning the marriage had lasted around nine months.
Post-Mortem Shows Strangulation Mark as Forensic Report Awaited
An initial post-mortem examination found a strangulation mark around Hinaโs neck, an injury below her right lip and evidence of bleeding.
However, investigators say the final cause of death will only be established after the Punjab Forensic Science Agencyโs report is received.
A PFSA team visited the apartment following the incident and collected forensic material from the scene.
Police are expected to use those findings alongside the post-mortem report, digital evidence and witness statements to reconstruct the events leading to Hinaโs death.
Geo News reported that investigators have also collected DNA samples from the two arrested suspects.
Police further said a rope and wire allegedly connected to the killing were recovered during the investigation.
Those claims remain part of the ongoing police investigation and have not yet been tested in court.
Father-in-Law Questioned, Asked Not to Leave Rawalpindi
Police have not yet determined the role of Hinaโs father-in-law, who was also named in the FIR.
Investigators have questioned him and directed him not to leave the city while the inquiry continues.
According to police sources, his involvement โ if any โ will be determined through evidence gathered during the investigation.
Police had earlier confirmed that the father-in-law, aged 78, was being questioned after Hinaโs body was discovered.
No formal finding of responsibility against him has been announced.
Seven-Member Investigation Team Formed
Rawalpindi police have constituted a seven-member investigation team to handle the case.
The team is being led by Rawalpindi Senior Superintendent of Police for Investigation Saifullah.
Investigators have also taken possession of mobile phones belonging to Hina and three members of her family.
The devices are expected to be examined for calls, messages, location information and other digital evidence that could help establish a timeline of events.
Police are also reviewing statements from those present at or connected to the apartment before and after Hinaโs death.
The three-day physical remand will allow investigators to question the detained suspects further and confront them with forensic and digital evidence as it becomes available.
Case Draws Wider Calls for Transparent Investigation
The killing has attracted wider attention amid public concern over violence against women.
First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Sunday called on the Punjab government to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone responsible is brought to justice.
For now, the investigation remains at an early stage.
The post-mortem findings, PFSA report, DNA testing, digital evidence and statements of the suspects are expected to play a central role in determining how Hina died and who, if anyone, should ultimately face prosecution.
The arrested husband and domestic worker remain suspects and are entitled to due process. No court has yet determined criminal responsibility in the case.
