KARACHI: At least three Sindh Rangers officials were martyred today evening after terrorists attacked a Rangers office in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, according to Sindh Police.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho said initial reports indicated that three attackers were also killed during the assault.
According to the police chief, the terrorists rammed their vehicle into the main entrance of the local Rangers headquarters before launching the attack. However, authorities were initially unable to confirm whether an explosion had occurred.
Security forces immediately launched a clearance operation following the incident. Meanwhile, officials said the area had been sealed off to eliminate any remaining threats.
The operation involved Special Security Unit commandos, the Anti-Terrorist Force and Sindh Rangers personnel. Authorities described the effort as a mopping-up operation to secure the facility completely.
Earlier, residents reported heavy gunfire and an explosion near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 5. Consequently, police and emergency services rushed to the scene.
Rescue 1122 Sindh said it dispatched emergency teams immediately after receiving reports of the incident. Chief Operating Officer Dr. Abid Jalaluddin Sheikh also reached the site to oversee rescue operations.
Police, Rangers and other security personnel established a security cordon around the affected area. Furthermore, Rapid Response Force units and police commandos were deployed to strengthen the security operation.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the attack and sought a detailed report from senior police officials. He directed authorities to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar also requested a comprehensive report from the Karachi police leadership. He instructed officials to submit all available details without delay.
Authorities continue investigating the attack while the security operation remains ongoing. Officials have not yet disclosed the identity of the attackers or claimed responsibility, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
