Pakistan is intensifying efforts to help end the escalating Middle East conflict. Foreign Secretary Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Islamabad supports a peaceful solution through dialogue.
He said Pakistan wants an immediate ceasefire and reduced tensions across the region. Islamabad also wants conflicting parties to return to negotiations through international and UN-backed mechanisms.
Pakistan Calls for Dialogue and Ceasefire
Ahmad said Pakistan believes international law provides a framework for resolving disputes peacefully. He stressed that the UN Security Council Charter promotes negotiations instead of armed conflict.
The foreign secretary acknowledged that the regional situation was moving in a negative direction. However, he said Pakistan understands its responsibility to help prevent further escalation.
Ahmad also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic role during the Iran-US confrontation. He said Islamabad remained among the countries actively involved in diplomatic efforts during the conflict.
Makkah Agreement Strengthens Regional Role
The foreign secretary also discussed the Makkah agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. He said the three countries share an objective of promoting peace and stability across the region.
According to Ahmad, the agreement places additional responsibility on Pakistan amid growing regional tensions. Islamabad is therefore seeking diplomatic solutions while maintaining its existing commitments.
The worsening crisis has affected Gulf security, energy infrastructure and important maritime routes. Consequently, Pakistan faces growing pressure to balance mediation efforts with its regional defence responsibilities.
Pakistan has repeatedly called for dialogue and de-escalation during the Iran-US confrontation. The government continues to support diplomatic engagement to prevent further expansion of the conflict.
Meanwhile, Islamabad remains focused on encouraging negotiations through international institutions. Officials believe sustained diplomacy could help reduce tensions and create conditions for a lasting settlement.
