Pakistan is set to experience another spell of monsoon weather over the coming days. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain, wind and thundershowers across several regions.
The three-day weather spell will continue from August 13 to 15. However, some areas will begin receiving rain from the night of August 12.
According to the forecast, isolated heavy falls are also possible during this period. Therefore, residents in vulnerable areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions.
Rain Forecast Across Upper and Central Pakistan
The PMD said monsoon currents are entering the upper parts of the country. Meanwhile, a westerly wave is also affecting the region.
As a result, these weather systems are expected to produce rain and thundershowers across several areas. The weather may remain intermittent, with occasional gaps during the forecast period.
Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northeastern Punjab will receive rain and thundershowers. The spell in these areas will begin from the night of August 12 and continue until August 15.
The affected areas include Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Gilgit and Skardu. Moreover, Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad and Galiyat are also expected to receive rain.
Peshawar will also see rain and thundershowers during the forecast period. In Punjab, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot are among the areas likely to receive rainfall.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi May See Rain From August 13
Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the Pothohar region will experience rain and thundershowers from August 13. The weather activity is expected to begin during the evening or night.
The spell will continue until August 15, although occasional gaps are expected. Residents may therefore experience changing weather conditions throughout the period.
The forecast also covers several other areas of Punjab. These include Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh.
Khushab, Layyah, Bhakkar and Sahiwal are also expected to receive rain and thundershowers. Additionally, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan remain within the forecast area.
Balochistan Districts Also Face Rain
The weather system will also affect parts of Balochistan. Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel may receive rain and thundershowers.
These areas are expected to experience the weather activity from the night of August 12. The spell will continue through August 15.
However, rainfall will not affect every part of the province equally. The forecast specifically identifies these three districts for rain and thundershowers.
Rain Expected in Parts of Sindh
Meanwhile, southeastern and coastal parts of Sindh will remain partly cloudy to cloudy. Tharparkar, Umerkot and Sanghar may receive rain and thundershowers on August 12 and 13.
Elsewhere in Sindh, hot and humid conditions are expected to continue. Therefore, weather conditions will vary considerably across different parts of the province.
PMD Warns of Urban Flooding and Landslides
The forecast also carries risks for several vulnerable areas. The PMD warned that heavy rain could cause urban flooding in low-lying locations.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan and Swabi face a risk of urban flooding. Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore may also experience flooding in vulnerable areas.
In addition, the department warned about possible landslides in vulnerable mountainous regions. Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir could face this risk.
Consequently, residents and travelers in these areas should remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall.
PMD Issues Advice for Travelers and Farmers
The PMD has advised tourists and travelers to exercise caution during the forecast period. Weather conditions may change quickly in areas affected by rain and thundershowers.
Farmers have also been advised to plan crop-related activities according to the expected weather. They should also take precautions to protect livestock from changing conditions.
Overall, the upcoming weather system is expected to bring rain across large parts of northern and central Pakistan. At the same time, isolated heavy falls could create risks in vulnerable locations.
