A fresh earthquake hit Kohlu as repeated tremors raised concerns among residents across affected areas.
A fresh earthquake struck Kohlu district in Balochistan on Saturday, marking the third tremor recorded in the area within two days.
Although authorities reported no immediate casualties or structural damage from the latest quake, repeated seismic activity has left residents concerned and alert.
The recent tremor followed two earlier earthquakes that had already unsettled nearby communities.
Third Earthquake Hits Kohlu Within Two Days
According to seismic authorities, the latest earthquake measured 4.3 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located 40 kilometres north of Kohlu.
Officials recorded the earthquake at a depth of 15 kilometres. This made it shallower than the previous tremor recorded in the region.
Despite the repeated activity, authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries or property damage after the latest quake. However, residents remained cautious due to continuing aftershocks.
Earlier Quakes Caused Damage and Injuries
The renewed seismic activity came after two earthquakes struck the region the previous day. The strongest among them measured 5.1 in magnitude.
That earthquake caused visible damage in affected areas. According to local administration officials, around 70 houses suffered partial damage in Kingri.
At least three people, including a child, sustained injuries. The injuries occurred in separate incidents involving collapsing walls.
Emergency responders later shifted the injured individuals to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The earlier earthquake had a depth of 17 kilometres. Its epicentre was located 60 kilometres northeast of Kohlu. Tremors were also felt in surrounding areas including Zhob, Barkhan and Rakhni.
Multiple Tremors Recorded in a Single Day
Meteorological authorities later confirmed that three earthquakes were recorded in a single day. The first tremor occurred at 10:25am. The second followed at 10:58am. Another earthquake was felt later in the afternoon at 4:49pm.
Additional tremors were also reported in Kohlu during the day. As a result, many residents remained outdoors for extended periods due to fear of further shaking.
Why Pakistan Faces Frequent Earthquakes
Pakistan remains vulnerable to earthquakes because of its geographical location. The country lies near the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This geological position creates regular seismic activity across different regions.
Earlier this month, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake affected Lahore and nearby areas. Residents moved out of homes and buildings as tremors spread across the city.
That earthquake originated in the Kashmir region and occurred at a depth of 18 kilometres.
Pakistan has experienced several destructive earthquakes over recent decades. In February this year, a 5.8-magnitude earthquake affected Islamabad, Swat and Hunza.
Meanwhile, the devastating 2005 earthquake in Azad Kashmir killed more than 73,000 people and displaced millions. Balochistan has also suffered major losses in the past.
In 2021, an earthquake in Harnai killed at least 20 people and complicated rescue efforts because of landslides.
Experts continue to stress the importance of preparedness, especially in remote and mountainous regions where emergency access remains difficult.
