Police have registered a terrorism case against 31 students of the University of Agriculture Tando Jam over alleged anti-national activities and campus unrest.
According to police officials, the incident occurred on August 16 when students allegedly entered the boysโ hostel while chanting anti-national slogans.
The First Information Report alleges that the students carried sticks, stones and rods while gathering inside university premises. Police said they attempted to create panic among students.
The FIR names six students, including Faisal Khaliq Napar, Mian Shabbir Abbasi and Ghulam Haider Banglani. It also names Asadullah Rajpar, Saleem Raza and Jaan Wasan.
Meanwhile, authorities listed 25 other students as unidentified suspects in the case. However, police have not arrested anyone so far.
Student leaders have rejected the terrorism allegations and described the case as politically motivated. They claim authorities filed the case to silence students raising campus-related concerns.
Furthermore, student representatives linked the action to protests following the murder of Fehmida Leghari. They alleged that the terrorism charges represent retaliation against participating students.
Police officials, however, maintain that the case concerns alleged activities that created unrest and fear on campus.
Authorities have begun investigating the incident and the allegations against the named and unidentified students.
