Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva and the organization’s executive committee have stepped down following approval at a special committee meeting held a day earlier, marking a significant shift in the country’s cricket administration.
The resignations came after reported intervention by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who met Silva last Friday to seek an amicable resolution amid mounting public pressure and allegations of financial irregularities within the board. Consequently, the move aims to ease tensions and pave the way for administrative restructuring.
Meanwhile, the government is expected to appoint an interim committee to oversee cricket affairs during the transition period. Former parliamentarian Eran Wickramaratne has emerged as the leading candidate to head the proposed setup, although officials have yet to make a formal announcement.
In addition, former national cricketers Sidath Wettimuny and Roshan Mahanama are under consideration for roles within the interim structure. However, authorities have not confirmed their appointments so far.
