In a major development in the global tech industry, AI startup Cursor, co-founded by Pakistani-born entrepreneur Sualeh Asif, has secured a $60 billion acquisition deal with Elon Muskโs SpaceX, according to multiple reports.
Alongside leading AI firms like OpenAI and Anthropic, Cursor has rapidly gained traction among developers by leveraging artificial intelligence to automate coding tasks. This sector has emerged as one of the earliest areas where AI companies are achieving strong commercial success.
According to details shared by SpaceX, Cursor has granted the company the option to acquire it later this year for $60 billion. However, if the acquisition does not proceed, SpaceX will pay $10 billion for their collaborative work. The company stated that combining Cursorโs developer-focused platform with SpaceXโs advanced computing infrastructure, including its Colossus supercomputer, could accelerate the development of highly capable AI models.
Originally from Karachi, Asif studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology after attending Nixor College. He also represented Pakistan at the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2016 to 2018.
While at MIT, he co-founded Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, alongside fellow students. The startup has since surpassed $1 billion in annualised revenue, making it one of the fastest-growing AI firms globally.
Moreover, Cursor reached a valuation of $29.3 billion in November 2025 after raising $2.3 billion in funding from major investors. Today, global companies such as NVIDIA, Adobe, Uber and Shopify use its tools to generate and edit complex code, highlighting its widespread adoption.
