Karachi and Other Cities Prepare for Decisive Matches
The Sindh government has announced public screenings of the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals and final across Karachi and several other cities.
The initiative has been launched by the provincial Department of Sports and Youth Affairs. Large screens will allow football supporters to watch the tournamentโs biggest matches together at selected public venues.
The semifinal lineup features four major football nations. France will face Spain in the first semifinal, while defending champions Argentina will meet England in the second match. FIFA has scheduled the games for July 14 and July 15 in the United States. Because of the time difference, the matches will be shown in Pakistan on July 15 and July 16.
Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar said Karachiโs main government screening will be arranged at the Youth Development Centre in Sharafi Goth, Malir.
The two semifinals will be shown there on July 15 and July 16. The World Cup final will be screened on July 20 according to Pakistanโs local date. FIFAโs official schedule lists the final for July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium in the United States.
Big Screens Planned From Hyderabad to Ghotki
The public screening programme will extend beyond Karachi.
In Shaheed Benazirabad, matches will be shown at Samdia Hotel in Hashim Town. Football fans in Larkana will be able to watch the games at Khara Complex.
The Sindh Sports Board Hostel has been selected as the screening venue in Hyderabad. Gamma Stadium will host football supporters in Mirpurkhas.
The government will also arrange large-screen broadcasts of the semifinals and final at Municipal Stadium in Sukkur. Rohri Football Ground will host a screening of the final match.
All three major matches will be shown at the Sardar Ali Muhammad Khan Mahar Sports Complex in Ghotki. The Thatta Sports Complex will screen the final only.
The screenings are expected to attract large crowds, particularly in areas with strong football traditions. Malir, Lyari and several districts of interior Sindh have produced passionate football communities despite cricketโs wider national popularity.
Public screenings can also provide families and young fans with an affordable opportunity to experience the excitement of an international sporting event.
Government Aims to Strengthen Football Culture
Mahar said the provincial government was taking steps to encourage sports and healthy activities among young people.
He said global competitions such as the FIFA World Cup can increase public interest in football. They can also motivate young players to participate in organised sporting activities.
The minister believes collective viewing experiences will strengthen football culture and increase enthusiasm among young supporters across Sindh.
The 2026 tournament is the largest menโs World Cup in history. It expanded from 32 to 48 participating teams and includes 104 matches across Canada, Mexico and the United States. The competition began on June 11 and will conclude with the final on July 19 in the host region.
The Sindh governmentโs screening initiative will now bring the tournamentโs final stages directly to supporters across the province. Authorities are expected to make seating, security and crowd-management arrangements at the announced venues.
