ISLAMABAD: At least seven people were killed and more than 150 injured after a powerful dust storm accompanied by heavy rain swept across several districts of Sindh and other parts of the country on Tuesday night.
The severe weather uprooted trees and damaged signboards, solar panels, transformers, and electricity wires, causing widespread disruption and power outages in multiple areas.
Five people, including two women, lost their lives in Nawabshah and nearby localities after the storm struck the region. Following the fatalities and numerous injuries, authorities declared an emergency at Peoples Medical College Hospital.
The deceased were identified as Umair Abbasi, Afzal Palli, and Chanesar Mehr, while the identities of the two women remained unknown at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, more than a dozen people sustained injuries in Khairpur Nathan Shah. Two children and a woman suffered critical injuries when the roof of a house collapsed in Rehmatullah Colony. Rescue teams shifted the victims to a hospital for treatment.
In another incident, Khuda Bux Laghari was seriously injured after a wall of his house collapsed in a village near Dau Dau Laghari. Strong winds also disrupted electricity supply to several neighborhoods.
In Dadu, over 100 people were injured in various storm-related incidents. Furthermore, power supply to Larkana was suspended after a transmission tower collapsed during the severe weather.
Elsewhere, 24 people were injured in Bannu due to roof and wall collapses caused by strong winds and heavy rain.
Separately, a 13-year-old student died after being struck by lightning in the Chakwari area near Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The victim, Aryan Tanveer, a sixth-grade student, was reportedly playing cricket with friends when lightning struck him.
His family and local residents rushed him to a hospital, but doctors could not save his life despite efforts to revive him.
