Two Vehicles Targeted in Remote-Controlled Explosions
Seven people were killed and three others were injured in two back-to-back explosions in Bannuโs Wazir sub-division.
The blasts took place in Marka Bera, a semi-tribal mountainous area of the district.
Bannu District Police Officer Yasir Afridi confirmed the casualties. He said seven people lost their lives, while three others were injured.
Police said both vehicles were targeted through remote-controlled explosions in the Phang Musa Khel area. Officials described the attack as a cowardly act of terrorism.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies reached the site soon after the explosions. They collected evidence and launched an investigation.
Second Blast Hits During Rescue Effort
According to police, the first blast targeted a private Datsun vehicle carrying passengers. The vehicle was travelling towards Domel when it was hit.
Five people were killed in the first explosion. The vehicle was completely destroyed.
The injured were being shifted to a hospital when the second blast occurred nearly one kilometre away from the first site.
The second explosion killed two more people and also destroyed the vehicle they were travelling in.
Rescue 1122 teams moved the bodies and injured victims to Domel Rural Health Centre and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Teaching Hospital.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
After the explosions, security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
Authorities also began a detailed sweep of the surroundings due to fears that more explosive devices could be present.
The incident has raised fresh concerns among residents about civilian safety in remote areas of Bannu.
The district has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months.
A week earlier, militants attempted to damage the Teri Ram Bridge on Miryan Road with explosives.
On June 12, two police constables were killed in separate targeted attacks in Bannu.
Last month, two police personnel and two civilians were killed during a fierce clash with militants, while 25 terrorists were also killed.
Amid rising violence, a local jirga has demanded urgent government action to eliminate militancy from the region.
