Security Official Taken Into Custody After Viral Video Shows Scuffle and Gunfire Incident
A student protest at Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUSIT) in Islamabad turned tense on Monday after a confrontation broke out between students and a uniformed security official at the university’s Chattha Bakhtawar campus.
The incident occurred during a protest by students who had gathered to raise concerns over the dismissal of a senior university official and other issues related to the institution’s administration.
According to sources, the security official involved in the incident has been taken into custody and is facing disciplinary proceedings under military law.
Viral Video Shows Clash Between Students and Uniformed Official
Videos of the incident circulated widely on social media, showing a uniformed man approaching a group of students along with a woman who was identified by some sources as a university official.
In the footage, the official can be seen confronting students before allegedly striking one individual with a stick. A heated exchange follows between the official and protesters, which quickly escalates into a physical confrontation.
The video shows several students surrounding the uniformed man during the scuffle, with some individuals appearing to physically attack him.
The situation became more serious when the official allegedly pulled out a pistol and pointed it towards the crowd.
According to the footage, the woman accompanying him attempted to intervene and stop the situation from escalating. The official then raised the weapon into the air and fired a shot.
The sound of gunfire caused panic among students, while police personnel present at the scene immediately moved in and surrounded the official.
Police Intervene, Official Removed From Campus
Following the firing incident, Islamabad Police officers reached the spot and took control of the situation.
The uniformed official was escorted away from the university premises by police personnel to prevent further escalation.
In another video circulating online, a senior Islamabad Police official can be seen speaking with students after the incident.
The police official assured protesters that the matter would be handled seriously and that strict action would be taken against the individual involved.
He informed students that the security official would face proceedings under the relevant military disciplinary system.
Students Were Protesting University Issues
The confrontation took place as students were already holding a protest at the campus over administrative matters.
The protesters had reportedly gathered against the removal of a senior university official and other concerns regarding university affairs.
