TEHRAN: Pakistan’s Field Marshal General Asim Munir discussed measures with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to defuse war tensions with the United States.
Asim Munir, met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran as Islamabad continues efforts to resolve the regional conflict.
According to Iranian state television, Munir discussed diplomatic efforts to end the crisis and advance shared regional objectives.
Pakistan Maintains Mediation Efforts
Munir said diplomatic processes required careful examination to achieve a comprehensive agreement. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating peace between Iran and the United States.
Furthermore, he said ending the crisis could open a new chapter focused on reconstruction, regional development and collective security.
Munir also met Iranian parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. He additionally held talks with Mohsen Rezaei, head of Iran’s top national security body.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has maintained close contact with Tehran and Washington throughout the conflict.
US-Iran Talks Remain Stalled
Pakistan previously helped broker an Islamabad memorandum between Iran and the United States. However, negotiations later stalled over security guarantees and navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz.
The development comes as Washington threatens fresh sanctions against countries maintaining economic ties with Tehran.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that entities helping Iran circumvent financial restrictions could lose access to the American financial system.
Iranian leader Ghalibaf dismissed pressure by the United States. He said the US was not in a position to dictate Iran and other countries for promoting their international ties.
