ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces and Field Marshal Asim Munir concluded his day-long visit to Iran on Monday. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also returned to Islamabad along with army chief.
The visit formed part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington and promote lasting regional peace.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Munir held high-level meetings with senior Iranian political and security officials.
Munir Holds High-Level Meetings in Tehran
Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme National Security Council representative Mohsen Rezaei and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
He also held discussions with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
The talks focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finding a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
Iranian leaders appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and efforts to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation.
Pakistan Continues Mediation Efforts
Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator between Iran and the United States since fighting began on February 28.
The Shehbaz Sharif-led government previously helped broker a two-week ceasefire between the two sides.
However, renewed fighting later undermined those efforts and increased fears of a wider regional confrontation.
Meanwhile, Washington is preparing additional sanctions against Tehran to intensify economic pressure.
