Concerns Grow Over Tourist Safety in Swat
The latest tragedy has renewed attention on safety risks around rivers and lakes in the region.
Swat remains one of Pakistanโs most visited tourist destinations during the summer season. Thousands of visitors travel to the area each year to enjoy its rivers, lakes, and mountain scenery.
However, changing water conditions and environmental risks continue to create challenges.
Strong currents, sudden changes in water levels, and limited public awareness can increase the danger for tourists visiting waterfront locations.
As a result, authorities have repeatedly advised visitors to remain cautious during recreational activities.
Previous Incidents Highlight Ongoing Risks
The recent accident follows other drowning incidents reported in the region.
Last month, a separate incident occurred in the Jala Wanan area of Malakand district.
Two women from the same family entered the river after a young girl slipped into the water and was carried away by strong currents.
Rescuers later recovered one womanโs body. Another woman was pulled from the river unconscious and shifted to hospital for treatment. However, the missing girl could not be located.
Similarly, in June last year, at least 17 tourists were swept away after a sudden rise in water levels in the Swat River.
These incidents have continued to highlight the importance of stronger awareness and improved precautionary measures.
Authorities Urge Visitors to Follow Safety Guidelines
Following repeated incidents, authorities have advised tourists to avoid unsafe sections of rivers and lakes.
Visitors have also been encouraged to follow boating instructions and remain alert to changing weather and water conditions.
As tourism activity increases during the summer months, officials continue urging people to prioritise safety to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
