Counterterrorism Offensive Continues for Second Consecutive Day
Security forces killed at least eight militants during the second day of an ongoing counterterrorism operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Darra Adamkhel area, according to security sources on Saturday.
The latest action raised the total number of militants killed in the operation to 13 after five militants were eliminated during the first phase of the offensive on Friday.
Sources said security personnel launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports regarding the presence of a militant group in the area. Subsequently, forces moved into the region, established a security cordon, and initiated a targeted clearance operation.
Officials confirmed that the operation remains active, with troops continuing searches in various locations to ensure the complete elimination of militant elements.
Among those killed were individuals identified as Daud, Hamza, Qari Zeenatullah, and Qari Lawangin. Security sources further stated that Zeenatullah and Lawangin were Afghan nationals, while authorities continue efforts to verify the identities of the remaining militants.
Authorities Vow to Continue Campaign Against Militancy
Security officials emphasized that forces would continue the operation until all threats in the area are neutralized. Moreover, authorities have maintained a strict security perimeter around the operation zone to prevent militant movement and ensure public safety.
The militants were reportedly linked to the banned Tariq Gidar group, an affiliate of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The group was named after militant commander Tariq Afridi, who operated in the region before his reported death in 2012.
Darra Adamkhel, located south of Peshawar and bordering Kohat district, has witnessed repeated militant attacks and security operations over the years due to its strategic location.
Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to face security challenges linked to militant activity following developments in neighboring Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly called for action against militant sanctuaries used by groups targeting Pakistan.
The latest operation forms part of broader counterterrorism efforts across the country. In recent weeks, security forces have conducted multiple operations in different regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting militant networks and strengthening security measures.
Officials reiterated their commitment to continuing operations aimed at maintaining stability and protecting citizens from militant threats.
